Speaking at the launching ceremony of the programme at the Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology on Thursday Arshad said Library Sciences had been instrumental in promoting research in the society. He said a knowledge-based society would ensure progress in all fields and the university had put premium on quality education by encouraging market-oriented research.
He said Muslims had made great progress in all disciplines of knowledge by virtue of well-managed libraries. Keeping in view the importance of libraries, he said the PU administration had improved the main library and equipped it with modern computers to cater the needs of students. He said new digital library has the capability to provide facilities to all students in a better way.
Professor Dr Abdus Sattar of Nanyang Technological University Singapore said that launching of M Phil leading to Ph D programme was milestone in the history of Punjab University. He offered assistance of five senior teachers.
PU Center for High Energy Physics Director Professor Dr Fazal-e-Aleem said the university had launched Ph D programme in 45 disciplines and currently 900 students were doing Ph D.
Department of Library and Information Sciences Chairman Afzal Haq Qureshi and Faculty of Arts Dean Professor Dr Abdul Rauf Butt also spoke on the occasion.
